this seems to be solid wood, cheap wood though. you have to ask the sales
for more details of the construction. you need hear the word "solid
hardwood".
the maker Bernhardt is middle to low level though. they had many complaints
recently as they moved their line in China. I hate to say that "made in
china" is low quality. but when the furniture makers moved their
manufacture to China, they are not looking for skilled labor (although China
has), but cheap and less skilled labor. the trend in the furniture market
is using inferior material and cheap labor to make furniture only "looks
good", combined with heavy marketing.
where can you buy solid wood furniture? there are still furniture stores
have good quality furniture. you need background knowledge and eyes to tell
the value of the furniture (topic is too broad to cover here). but try some
small local dealers, they may have good quality stuff.

很多所谓的实木家具都是半实木的，比如costco的dresser吧，拉开抽屉，外面那个抽
屉板应该是实木的，抽屉的body仔细看很多是engineer wood，dresser的背后，嘿嘿，
那就有很多是三合板了。

很多人是这样说的，但我买的家具绝大部分是made in USA的，买的时候你可以和
salesperson确认这一点。

this is just very very common now. even Council (a high end brand owned by
hancock and moore) could use plywood their very expensive piece on the back.
pure solid wood? you may have to have a cabinetmaker to custom make, which
is not necessarily more expensive.

yeah, i didn't do any research and bought a kid bedroom set made in vietnam.
it's solid wood on most parts, but not really good quality. i regretted,
and decided to do enough research before i buy more furniture. Cheap is
money too, I'd rather pay more to buy stuff I like and enjoy, and will last
longer (for wood cases, can be generations)

I know Bernhardt is not a bad brand, it's decent. but in the industry, it
really sits in the middle at the best. there are better brands like Council
, Baker,Stickly, in mass produced furniture. A Bernhardt sofa costs only
half or even 1/3 of the price of a piece by hancock and moore.

for used furniture. consignment store is an option too. just buy NEW box
and mattress. for wood cases, used are just fine. you also need do some
research on furniture industry. some people on craigslist are not
reasonable, they could ask high price for so so stuff. you need eyes to
tell what is good, what is not so good.

Bernhardt只能算中档,有些line是中高档。在贵就买baker, century, Maitland-Smith
之类的。但是要我说这些所谓顶级的好也好的有限了，难道还用金子做不成。这些牌子
我都看过，我最后都买的Bernhardt,我觉得性价比不错。 这就好比Hermes包，在怎么
追求手工，皮质，但是也就是个包，和价钱肯定是不服的，你要是愿意付那个extra的
奢侈费用，也没人拦你，但是千万不要说服自己和别人，说这个价钱是因为这个东西就
值这个钱。在最贵的家居也是一样的道理了，贵到一定程度，质量就不是主要因素了。
