I was delayed by a family emergency and haven't sent out my application yet.
The deadline is Feb 1st, but I heard that it could be your disadvantage to
submit your application late. What do you guys think?

It is definitely a disadvantage to be late in the application. Many people
with good credentials sent in their applications super early.
