在律师事务所做paralegal和别的文书工作的需要什么qualification.我知道是不需要
law degree的。一般是文科，但是具体的就不知道乐。
然后这些工作将来career 发展是什么，要是考上法学院，律所会不会给你出钱？

Usually a bachelor's degree. That's it. Some schools have paralegal programs
and will give you a certificate, but most of the time employers don't
require it.
Senior paralegal? Perhaps advance to the non-lawyer management staff later
on.
No. But if the firm likes your enough, you may have a guaranteed associate
position after law school.

不好意思，再多问两句。
除了paralegal还有什么non-lawyer job在律所么？那么您说的non-lawyer management
staff是指什么呢？
如果有science background,能在律所先做两年再转成technical writer 么？

finance, IT, etc etc.
那么您说的non-lawyer management
Office administrator, IT manager, marketing manager, etc.
做两年 what? Patent agent? Sure, if you have the patent bar. Paralegal?
Certainly. But I've never heard of the position "technical writer" in a firm.

sorry,第二个问题问的不清楚。
我是说如果一开始是做HR, paralegal的，但是有science background, 能跳去做
technical advisor么？

Most law firms don't have technical advisors. Even those few who do are
unlikely to choose their technical advisors from the pool of paralegals or
HR staff.
You're looking for a career shortcut that doesn't exist. Realistically
speaking, if you start out as a paralegal, you'll be a paralegal for life,
unless you pursue an advanced degree.

谢谢。
其实不是我自己拉。
但是为什么这样的short cut不存在呢？比如说你有biology的master,结果后面读了个
文科的硕士，然后机缘巧合去了律所作paralegal或者别的。干两年下来，律所的东西
都熟悉，英文写作又好，为什么不可以take 这个short cut 呢？比如这个时候再申
请别的律所得patent的工作。对不住，好奇害死猫。赫赫，

因为paralegal这种活,跟文秘的性质差不多,最主要的是人机灵,跑跑腿儿,能说会道,能
做最基本的文字处理工作.这些是非英语母语的人很欠缺的,所以外国学生做paralegal
的可能性本来就小.
然后即使你找了份paralegal工,你做的一直都是整理资料,检查引用是否精确,准备文件
摸版等等,你永远不会做真正的legal工作.这跟你工作经验没关系,你做四十年
paralegal,你还是不会做legal工作,因为那不是你的工作范畴.Support staff的工作范
畴,跟律师的工作范畴,内容相差很大.所以谈不上对律所的东西都熟悉.
而且做为staff,你根本不会有机会真正的写东西.Paralegal的文字工作,基本上限于检
查律师写的东西里面有没有引用错误,顶天了把律师以前写过的简单信件拿来改改日期
签名等律师核准了邮寄出去,填写表格,这些非常枯燥的机械工作.写作这个东西,光靠读
,自己不写,提高的可能性很小.
patent agent之类工作需要的skill set,跟staff根本不同.如果是生物方面,没有博士
学位基本不要考虑.另外就是写作能力,跟客户打交道的能力.并且你看

Now that you've mentioned it, I just realized I've never met a foreign-born
paralegal except one, and that guy had worked at Goldman Sachs and the White
House before becoming a paralegal.

嘿嘿嘿，早说我，不是俺。
学文科的，作的也不是paralegal,属于非legal staff 吧，但是具体做什么的不知道，
也许是翻译。
前辈一定在这行混了不少年吧。华人一般都在律所作什么呢？您觉得前景好么？

问个题外话。
听说考patent bar的话，没有身份，没有工作的外国人，其实是不可以考的，对么。
欧看了说明，好像是这么一回事。

He wants to be a politician, so he wanted to go to law school, and being a
paralegal would help his law school application.
