之前发帖少加了句，最好是金融领域的。因为我朋友收到的简历里IT, 工程类居多。当然，里面很多都是很优秀的大牛，但是这个职位还是主要是金融类的。各位投过简历的也不用担心，我朋友会把简历转给负责相应领域的同事，有合适的职位一样会通知各位的。

想用 SNNS train一个neural network. 下载了JavaNNS, unzip后，从command
line 用 java –jar JavaNNS.jar, 就会显示一个 pop-out 让你确认装载library的
path, 我确认 path 后就出现error:
"Exception in thread “main” java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could?t find
the JavaNNS.jar file

I have hard time to decide between these two schools. Vandy no money,
Minnesota $35000 over three years. Plus the tuition difference, I will have
$65000 more in debt coming out of Vandy.
I have been in Minnesota for six years and have a PhD. Will likely practice
in IP. Hopefully in biglaw, but no place preference.
Which one should I go?? Thanks!!!

it is required. not as many people will go to the website to search for the
position. ask your attorny to talk to your boss.

我倒是觉得明大也可以考虑,尤其是如果你计划将来在明州或者附近工作的话.
Vandy学校附近也没有太多工作机会,如果去那里就是要搬两次家:上学一次毕业一次.
如果留在明大就可能都省了.
明州总体来说还是不错的.很多人顾虑的是天气.
如果你已经毕业了,可以联系一下本城的FIRM.
除了大家都熟悉的,还有
Merchant
Fredrikson & Byron
Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner 等
(这些FIRM相对来说招本地毕业的人更多一些)
先开始工作.将来1L SUMMER也有可能去那里.
生物出身的人比较多.三年后可能会更多.增加一些工作经验总是好的.
当然Vandy机会多一些.但如果只做IP,明大就足够好了.
如果想将来做别的或者一定要去Vault多少多少的Firm,
那就多花那六万五多搬两次家好了.

I would go to Vandy. $65K in student debt is nothing. If you can find a $
160K job (maybe even higher by the time you graduate), which is more likely
if you choose Vandy, then the $65K difference will be offset in no time.

我见过Minneapolis同学一面.
当然也不见得就比网上的同学提的建议更靠谱.
我自己的情况不太一样.
我只申请过一所学校,而且申请得太晚,这都是失误.
所以我连他这样两校择一的机会都没有过.
不过我懒得搬家,到美国若干年来一直在同一地区,这一点也许反映在我的建议里.
我是因为(1)一直和LD在一起,而且LD的工作很不错.
(2)我有孩子,要上好的公立学校.
这些因素每个人不一样.比如对你来说搬到加州可能增加了DATE机会. :)
六万五的区别作为学费不算多.但另一方面如果做IP两所学校PLACEMENT差别不太大.
以该同学的背景去160K的BIG LAW都不难.比如FISH在双城也PAY 160K.风城160K的更多
了.
我上面也提到了,如果目标是别的方向或者VAULT排名的话也许不一样.
我也认识有的同学,做IP PRACTICE几年以后又到NYC去做CORPRATE LAW,工作时间
更上一层楼,但每年BONUS大概都远不止六万五. 看各人的取舍吧.

Well, I just noticed OP's id -- so there is some chance he wants to work in
MN after graduation, in which case Univ. of Minnesota may be a good choice.
But if OP wants to keep his post-graduation options open, I think Vandy is a
safer choice.
Then again, my opinion may be biased because I went to a school in the South
and liked it.

I would pick Minnesota. The slight bump in the prestige does not justify
paying $65k more for Vandy. I am not sure where these two schools are ranked
now, but when I was in law school several years ago, both of them were in
somewhere between 15 and 20. Neither is national (only TOP 14s are), so
normally you need to rank in top 1/3 (maybe a bit higher for UMinn) of your
class to have a decent chance to get a BIGLaw job anyway. Now, since you
have a Ph.D. and want to do IP, you should be fine as

For the number of graduates hired by biglaw in 2007:
GULC 315/650 48%
Vandy 89/221 40%
GW 199/502 40%
Minn <20%

Interesting. I am surprised to see that GULC's numbers are lower than I
expected and Vandy's numbers higher. GULC's number is low, probably because
this number does not count # of clerks. At my school (which is a
comparable national school to GULC), we had about 10% of students in my
class taking COA clerkships. Vandy is well respected in the south, and
probably places well in the Atlanta and Texas markets, and to the lesser
extent, DC. UMinn is also a regional school and probably places well

Clerkship accounts for 15% of the class at GULC and 10% at Vandy.

For law schools in midwest, only UChicago, Northwestern, and Michigan are
better than Vandy.
All public schools in Midwest are crappy with respect to job placement.
There is basically no difference between Ohio State, Wisconsin-Madison, Iowa
, Minn, and Indiana-Bloominton. UIUC is better than the rest but still not
even close to Vandy.
Just ignore the Usnews ranking for non-T14 schools if your concern is job placement.
