Manet
------------------------------------------------------

A couple days ago at our art class, a very young girl sitting next to me was
copying a still life oil painting. I did not pay too much attention to it
until our teacher started asking questions as usual.
"Who do you think the painter is? "
"Well...... it looks like Manet. "I said even though not so sure. Last time
I saw his work, I recall, was a while ago, summer of 2006. A friend of mine
asked me to take a picture of his "One Asparagus" while I was visiting Musé
e d'Orsay in Paris. It did not take me too long to do that.
Just when I turned around, I was stunned to see this painting, literally
glued there for a long time, definitely longer than I was in front of Monet'
s Sunrise. LOL Never ever a still life looked so NOT still to me, even the
water was so alive!
Later, I've spotted his still-life paintings here and there and always
admired them dearly. But I did not know until now that Manet actually
painted those at his death bed. At his last stage of life, he was lay dying.
His friends went to visit him and brought him flowers, of course. So he
started painting those flowers in vases since ...... well he had nothing
else to do, right?
Who would guess that those flowers so full of life, energy and love were
painted by a dying man? I bet Manet lived his life to the fullest!
