这真是个很难说清楚的问题。也许，20多年前胡耀邦说过的一句话能够从一个侧面回答

据中国科学院自然科学史研究所的许良英老先生回忆，1977年，文化大革命刚刚结束，
准备多年的《爱因斯坦文集》（中文版）终于在中国出版了两卷。 1979年，时任《中
国青年报》副总编辑的钟沛璋见到许良英，告诉他，耀邦同志看完了其中的一卷，说：

There is a saying, "History is always interpreted by the contemporaries."
People always tend to reconstruct the history and extract the meaning out of
it. No one really knows what happened, but different people, depending on
their own social value systems, believe they have obtained the "true and
only" meaning out of it, and then they direct their ways of thinking and
