I just bought my son a guitar. He is 2 and half year old. He really loves it . Play it all the time as a toy of cause. For 3 years, 1/2 size is good (30 inch). I would recommend classical guitar. because the strings are made of nylon, it won't hurt the fingers. The acoustic guitar has steel strings. Be sure to supervise her, since kids can mess up with the strings and may break the string.

I bought it from Amazon. I just bought a cheap one. At this stage, I don't really think it is really for musical. This is the one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Lauren-30-Student-Guitar-Strings/dp/B0002 The review says that it does not stay in tune which is the problem for cheap guitar. But I don't really care because my son just use it for pretend play. If you know a little bit about guitar, you can tune it for her, but kids with mess it up anyway.
