filter as well (don't know what type of filter you have).

Check Pentair site and it is a DE filter. You need to check the pressure
gauge and compare it to the first reading when the filter was just cleaned
and filled with new DE (I assume you didn't have the data so I suggest you
do the complete DE filter clean).
Here is the manual:

(make sure pump power breaker is in OFF position, release pressure from top
release valve, buy a new box of DE, and wear gloves, goggle, and mask -- DE
is bad if breath in and can irritate skin).
When open the filter, also check for and replace broken filter elements and
parts as they will cause uneven water flow and cause DE unevenly distribute
among elements.

Use YellowOut plus shock. Yellowout requires pH>7.8. After treatment (it
takes a whole day), bring pH down to 7.4.
Your filter is DE type. Make sure you clean the filter twice a year.

can't you just go under the water and touch the stain? is it permanent? can
you wipe it out? or just globules of dust?
without a clear photo, without your first-hand assessment, I don't
think we can help you much, even we'd like to.
