if my H1B is approved in this December but doesn't take effect until next
June (2010), can I continue to work as OPT (expires July 2010)?
and most importantly, can i go back to china after approved and before
taking effect?
very urgent... my firm has just filed LCA with begin date as June 1st.

yes you can work.
the only thing is still Visa-risk to change from F1->H1.

i suppose in this case i should still apply for F1 visa when i'm in China.
because my H1B won't be in effect by then.
is this correct?

I think now it's better not to go back until H1B take effect. When H1B gets
approved, your OPT gets voided. I heard.

我觉得这么好的故事蛮可以拍得更惊心动魄一点，这电影有点boring，像史实记录片。

it depends when you go back China.
I would say same risk.
I once went to Canada for my H1 after it was effective long time ago.
It took me an hour for interviewing for the visa back then.

i'm trying to get H1B approved by this year, but I put the begin date
(take effect date?) as
June 2010.
I need to go back to China in early 2010, maybe in Feb.
My opt expires in July 2010.

then bring all your documents with you and go ahead.
I once went back to China without making visa appointment first.
The only lucky thing was that time time was long enough for me.
Though finally I got my visa a few days before my flight ticket.

My school advisor suggests no travel outside during "change of status", not
saying OPT or H1B itself is risky. I am on OPT and will go back, but I don't
have change of status problem. Ask your school.
