Summarizing the publication, Gladwell notes that success "is not exceptional
or mysterious. It is grounded in a web of advantages and inheritances, some
deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky",[8] and at the end
of the book, he remarks, "Outliers wasn't intended as autobiography. But you
could read it as an extended apology for my success."[2]

In the book Ferriss uses the acronym DEAL for the four main chapters.[9] It
stands for Definition, Elimination, Automation, and Liberation.
Definition means to figure out what a person wants, get over fears, see past
society's "expectations" and figure out what it will really cost to get
where a person wants to go.
Elimination is about time management, or rather about not managing time.
This is achieved by applying the 'Pareto principle' or '80-20 Rule' (80% of
your results come from 20% of your efforts) to focus only on those tasks
that contribute the majority of results, and using Parkinson's law (work
expands so as to fill the time available for its completion) to limit the
amount of actual time spent working. There's a difference, Ferriss says,
between efficiency and effectiveness. The book's emphasis is on
effectiveness.
Automation is about building a sustainable, automatic source of income. This
includes techniques such as drop-shipping, automation, Google AdWords,
AdSense, and outsourcing.
Liberation is dedicated to the successful automation of one's lifestyle and
the liberation from a geographical location and job. Incidentally, Ferriss
notes that if somebody has a regular job, the order of steps will be DELA,
not DEAL.
The book asserts that technology such as email, instant messaging and
Internet-enabled PDAs complicate life rather than simplify it.[10] It
advocates hiring virtual assistants from developing countries such as India
and Philippines to free up personal time.[11]

Gladwell: 1
Ferriss: 1

cutoff, linear and saturation
If students are in the linear state, they are happy to learn
But if students are the cutoff, and saturation state, not only they need
grit, they must have internal motivation to overcome those barrier, these
are the most difficult tasks to do.
My question for you is how to tackle cutoff and saturation state?
Nice presentation, but honestly you have no answer to those tough questions,
just some common sense most people experiences and could not explain these
well, 3 books I have not read so far, but I think you summarize main points
in your presentation.
The Process of Education by Bruner, Jerome S.
What Video Games Have to Teach Us about Learning and Literacy by Gee, James
Pa
Look Like you are in teaching career, what kind of area you are teaching?
Doctor degree in what major?

My answer is at the time 9:40-10:09 of the original video. I tried this
technical on Tai Ji push
hands. Usually it takes 30 years and 3 hours per day to practice. I am
doing 3 minutes per day, at least so far so good. An example is the
following, instead of practicing Tai Ji, I practice a different thing with
lower barrier:
questions,
