Staff R&D Engineer is primarily responsible for utilizing independent
judgment and discretion in decision making related to product development
activities. A Staff R&D Engineer conceptualizes designs and leads new
product developments which support DePuy Synthes strategic goals and
objectives. They train, develop and provide technical guidance and
developmental mentoring for more junior engineers. A Staff engineer will
provide consultation and direction regarding marketing trends and function
as primary technical resource for surgeons and sales force.
Responsibilities listed below do not represent the full scope of duties and
responsibilities, but aims to be representative of the fundamentals
expected
of a Staff R&D Engineer. It is implied that a Staff R&D Engineer would be
competent, and willing to undertake any task expected.
 Lead and project manage medium to large size product development
projects or programs.
 Design and develop new products for domestic and international
applications.
 Generate solutions to solve complex design problems.
 Liaise with Global product development function.
 Coordinate prototype production and approves design drawings.
 Provide technical guidance and developmental mentoring for junior
engineers.
 Defines project priorities for R&D and cross functional project
team members.
 Provide consultation and direction regarding market trends.
 Identify and evaluate new technologies/materials for product
development applications.
 Consult with marketing regarding the formalization of market plans
for the respective product lines and product development launches.
 Provide technical product support for surgeons & sales force.
 Deliver presentations at professional & technical industrial
meetings.
 Identify and implement solutions to improve product development
efficiency and quality.
 Coordinate in cross-functional teams to improve and develop
internal processes and capabilities.
 Independently make decisions within established guidelines and
procedures. A decision may result in significant impact regarding projects
of expanded/global scope.
 Strictly maintain confidential Information and intellectual
property (IP) includes Product development information, designs, trade
secrets, government reporting and legal matters, sales volumes and
marketing
strategies.
 Cooperate with all cross-functional departments, suppliers,
surgeons, sales personnel, and international colleagues.
 Environmental (noise, heat, fumes, etc.): Above average working
conditions in the general office area with some exposure to plant
conditions
as well as operating room/clinical environment.

Required Competencies and Skills/所需的能力与技能:
 B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology. M.S. in above degrees preferred.
Or equivalent experience.
 Minimum 7 years related product development experience (medical
devices) or MS with minimum 5 years experience. Completion of a minimum of
3
major projects. A major project is defined as providing significant
project management experience in an area, which provides significant
business opportunity or results in a positive strategic impact.
 Ability to effectively lead cross-functional project teams.
 Ability to prioritize/manage multiple tasks.
 Ability to independently apply theoretical technical principles to
product design as typically gained through a 4-year technical degree and 7
years design experience.
 Utilizing either written or oral format, ability to effectively
communicate critical design/project information to internal and external
customers.
 Ability to apply current FDA, MDD and CFDA design control
regulations to projects which result in meeting all regulatory and company
guidelines and policies.
 Problem Solving/ Decision Making Skills.
 Excellent computer skills.
