so which book is your all time favorite?
I'm forever looking for good sic_fic fatansy books to read. :)

My favorite fantasy novels are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. There are tons
of other fantasy series, but the story is more or less like LOTR. I have tried
several other "famous" fantasy novels, like the Wheel of Time by and
Dragonlance trilogy, but don't like them very much.
The prelude novel to LOTR, named the Hobbit, is simpler and earsier to read. I
found it very entertaining, too.
Harry Potter is also a good fantasy series, and it is exceptional because it
does not follow the canonical fan

I haven't read "lord of rings". Afraid of reading the books will make the
movies seem washed out. :) and I will look for Issac Asimov's book. :) thx
usually I borrow novels from library. so rarely get to read the whole series.
do you like Terry Brooks' work? he is my favorite authour in sci_fic
fantasy. :) right now reading his "the voyage of the Jerle Shannara". an
interesting story. :)

Haven't read Shannara series. Probably I will try it someday. BTW, you can
check Amazon, where you can find reader's reviews about almost every book.
Some of the reviews have a lot of insights and can give you some basic ideas
about the story and style of a book. I find it useful before I buy or read a
particular book.
Also, in Amazon, some people like to make lists of their favorite books, so
it's a good way to look for new books or authors.

什么是sci-fi fantacy 呢？一般是当成两类作品的吧。
Fantacy 的经典当然是LOTR.
Sci-fi 的名家杰作那就多了。

I have always thought that sci_fic fantasy belong to the sci_fic section.
you are saying that they are totall different?
and any good sci_fic books to recommand?
I found sci_fic fantasy by accident and love to read this kind of books ever
since. if there is any good sci_fic books to read, would love to know about

LOTR is the best,
Le Guin的Earthsea 三本也还不错, 虽说规模远不如LOTR, 故事还是很好的.
还有Amber前五部, 文彩不如LOTR, 但能别出蹊径也很好.
其他如Shannara, Dragonlance, Wheel of time之类模仿LOTR
痕迹太重, 又达不到那个水准, 最多有空时随便翻翻.
scifi 和 fantasy 的界限并不很明确,
Asimov的Foundtaion三本和很多中短篇必须一看,
Clarke的硬度高了一些, 不一定人人喜欢,
其实Heinlein的文彩是最好的, 但我讨厌他的政治观点.
Larry Niven, Le Guin, Poul Anderson 等人也有些不错的.

thx for the reply. :) now I have a list of whose books to look for in library
. I'm the kind that pick a book by its cover usually. :). just couldn't
resist a book with a meaning looking dragon on its cover. Btw, do you have
any books involve dragons? those kind are my favorite. :) thx in advance
