I bought a new laptop in the U.S. as a gift to my dad in China. It's
Windows 7 and all English. What do I need to do to make it Chinese so my
dad can use it? Thanks.

you need to install the win 7 chinese language pack

The language package should have been installed. What need to do is to
change the location and language settings. And change keyboard setting to
Chinese, together with Chinese input.

the pc was purchased on US, the chinese language package just part of the
Win 7, not meaning INSTALLED on
Win 7. that's different.
requires to select the option in Windows update....

only the win7 Ultimate has the language pack.

It is doable even if it is not win7 Ultimate.
Go to "Windows" and search the previous posts, you will solution.

ultimate 有个100M的 language pack，装上就行
别的version不清楚
Chinese (Simplified) Language Pack - Windows 7 (KB972813)
Download size: 134.3 MB
Update type: Optional
After you install this language pack, you can change the display language of
Windows 7 to be Chinese (Simplified).
Go to the Clock, Language, and Region category in the Control Panel to
change the display language.
