好不容易才找到时间，来这里晒晒俺住的这个奇怪的地方。
说不公平，是反过来的不公平---
一年前，决定是不是要take这里的offer。俺是思前想后，一万个不愿意。最后不得已
到这里呆了一年，收到n多不可思议的震撼：
一是偌大个城市（300多万人口），吃喝玩乐什么都有，房价和消费却极低。一年只需
拿个10万出头，日子竟然就可以过得滋润无比。屋前屋后奔驰保时捷奥迪...房子便宜
一点点，车可就可以好n多了！
二是DAYCARE几乎免费，两个小孩一年几乎可以省俺税后至少2万多刀。等上学了以后，
25%的家庭小朋友都上私立学校，因为政府补贴了大半。去年医生给儿子做了个矫形头
盔，医疗全保。出去玩的时候才知道，其他地方都要自己掏腰包--3800多刀。
三是老婆无聊去上学，一门课只要200多刀。直接把俺震晕了，一个大学读下来岂不是
只要1万刀学费？
四是很多夫妻都在读书家里还有小朋友，没有收入的家庭，政府一个月能白送2000刀。
震得俺直发麻...
......其他令人咂舌的天方夜谭似的故事不胜枚举啊。
年底算税，就多交了2、3千...这是俺第一次吃到天上掉的馅饼---马儿能跑，还不用吃
草！

Called USCIS and placed a service request. The guy told me it took USCIS 2-3
month to process my case even my PD is current now.
The phone is very easy to go through. Almost no busy signal. But the menu
took me a while to reach a person-talk exit.

Who said that? I am dying for the jerk green card. my PD is 2006. The USCIS
issued the welcome letter to me in April and then sent an error notice next
day....you know how I feel about it........

As I was told, it wonot happen so quickly because the process is done by
human hands, not computer programs.
Did you call them to place a service request? In this case, you can at least
get a letter in 2 weeks saying we are still in processing of your case. But
I also suspect SR could help anything. Just try.

I also suspect SR could help anything. Just try.

I called the USCIS service yesterday and did SR during the call. I was told
I should get the response in two weeks. Hope the case can be approved then.

Montreal is heaven if you speak French. If you could earn >100k in Montreal,
just stay there. I have leaved there for 5 years. I just escaped from
Montreal last year since I don't speak French and I hate the bitter winter.
Enjoy your stay in Quebec, Canada. You will miss it.

The letter will say "We are still in processing of your case.". Online
status change means real process information.
SR is a kind of pushing to the air. But we better do it than not.

You will 200% receive a letter from uscis in 10 days,
but the letter will say "wait for 6 month..."

我前天打的sr电话，昨天发的电邮到TSC, EB UPDATE
。 看来电邮还是有人读的。我昨天先收到一封自动回复（你一看就知道），今天收到
这个。

也许她们用机器人读的电邮，查了我的pd is current, and then give a different
response.
but this may be too complicated for a robot to understand my email and check
their database accordingly. so i tend to believe they read my email and did
some quick check.
unless somebody also received such a letter and nothing happened for a long
time.

10万年薪在加拿大算是高薪了，即使在多伦多也可以活得滋润。加拿大税率高，但是有
两个孩子的话，应该还可以免不少税吧。

It is in Quebec, Canada. Not everywhere is the same in Canada.
Quebec is a special case because it is mostly French-speaking and wants to
separate from the rest of the country. The federal gov has to allocate
billions of $ every year to 'bribe' this province to stay within the country
....feels like Tibet in China?...

It is actually a billingual city - majority of people here can speak English
, but French is considered to have a priority over English...which annoyed a
lot of people.

Actually...>=10w is not that rare here. The headhunter I was talking to
fills quite many >=15w positions. I don't really feel the salary in IT
field is much lower than other regular cities.
The living cost is quite different from Toronto:
1. Daycare cost. With 10W, you have to pay around 2.5W after tax in toronto
. Montreal around $4000.
2. School. 10W is not enough for you to send kids to private school. In
Montreal, you can.
3. University. Montreal < half cost. Price doesn't go up much f

A politican once said "we might have wasted a few billion dollars in Quebec,
but it may be worthy spending to keep Quebec within Canada". The unfair
policy goes on, probably much more than a few billions. Good example of "
crying baby gets milk first".

I moved from US to Canada some time ago, but did not stay in Montreal. I
got couple American colleagues who are on working visas. It shouldn't be
hard just to check with the local headhunters.
