地图，感觉很不错。

My compiling always takes a while, and I often open a web to browse, which
is distracting somehow.
What do you do while waiting?

1. switch to texlive? Texlive on Linux is so much faster than MikTex,
several fold faster.
2. Also, use AucTex preview mode so you do not need to compile so often.

3. use
\usepackage{syntonly}
\syntaxonly
to compile and only check syntax.
4. split your big tex file into small ones, and use \include to only compile
the chapter you are writing.

Also, you can keep making modifications to the buffer, typing whatever you
would like during the compiling, if you are compiling it in Emacs.

Thank you very much for your response.
well, I use MikTex and WinEdt. there does not seem to be a cure. :-(
By the way, why would people use "\usepackage{syntonly} \syntaxonly"? What's
the advantage of compiling the file while not generating the output? What
can be done on the compiled file then?

That way compiling only checks syntax to ensure your tex file is accurate.

There should be a way to compile part (a region) of the file in WinEdt, I
guess?
That way you don't need to wait for compiling the whole file if what you
want to see is the compiled result of a region.

一百多页的文档也就三四秒，不算很慢。

It's slow or not depends on how many figures there are and how big the
figures are. With pure text, it's fast either way.
Do you know any way to compile partial documents in WinEdt? I don't seem to
find it.

索性再说说这个事情吧。
对于像论文或者书这样的长篇，我只是用了include好分段而已。这样跟用一个大文本
其实是等同的吧。
你所说的拆分是说一个小文本是一个document吧？那怎么处理各个文本之间的cross
reference呢？
