我承认我的眼睛是红得 too. Don't be too surprised though. When government thinks it's smart, all kinds of funny things happen. Eventually, we find ourselves live in a big joke.
It is really a big joke especially given the raises are limited to top executives and traders. It this a excuse that less bonus incentive will constrain their risk taking?

This is from "who rules america" website. It might explain why the executive s can get pay raises when other ordinary people are losing their jobs: http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html If you wonder how such a large gap could develop, the proximate, or most imm ediate, factor involves the way in which CEOs now are able to rig things so that the board of directors, which they help select -- and which includes so me fellow CEOs on whose boards they sit -- gives them the pay
哈哈,熊猫啥时候混到这里来啦! However I don't think that make too much sense. Bankers don't take risks from their own pocket, the worse senario for them is just lose the job. So they basically always over bet and take high leverages. If successful they make good money, if not they could just change a bank and do it again. Secondly, given they are so many departments in a bank, you always will find groups doing well in bad years. Still nothing to complaint if the whole bank was suffering.

that's because we have a stupid government and lots of stupid politicians. in the good old days, banks paid their employees with little in salaries to just get them going, and a big chunk of their comp comes in the form of performance-based salaries. so if you screw up a deal, your year is toast. now, those guys are getting paid the same, but with much greater certainty so guess what, they will take more risks because their bases are now fully covered and anything more is just extra for them. a
