there is an empty directory say, /remote1/home, in my file
system. something very strange happened to the dir:
when i typed "ls /remote1"
it said "home"
when i typed "ls -l /remote1"
it said nothing
when i typed "rmdir /remote1/home"
it said "no such file or directory"
when i typed "mkdir /remote1/home"
it said "file already exits"!!!
It seems like a stale file handle. But how can get rid of it?

No, it doesn't work.
when i typed "umount /remote1/home"
it said "umount: /remote1/home: not found"
when i typed "mount /remote1/home"
it said "mount point /remote1/home does not exist"
This strange phenomena happened after I used autofs
(an automatic mount/umount system) with NFS to manage
a cross-mounted cluster system.
More suggestions? Thanks xian!!!

try
umount /remote1
mount /remote1
?
I assume it's an NFS filesystem (from its name).
