vi uses ncurse, so the size of your term window determines vi's size. what
you should change is the configuration of xterm/konsole or whatever term you
use. BTW, it's not standard file got messed up in vi, it's your file is not
in standard format. Usually people never write more than 80 characters in
one line which is the standard width of xterm.
