we have a Sun fire V100 server. It has not been used for a long time, and now,
no body still remember its root account.
Now we just want to reuse it, but can't login as root. What can we do in this
situation? Re-install the OS? or some other ways? The original OS in this
server is SunOS 5.8, and now there is no install CD in hand, and seems can't
get it free! (what's differnet between SunOS 5.8 and Solaris 8, or 9?) So, how
can i do? Can we just install a solaris 9 and wipe out the old version?

download Solaris 9 ISOs from SUN, they are free. burn to CD. boot from
CD, then mount hard disk and modify the /etc/shadow file, empty the
second field of root account. reboot
