Windows XP does not support upgrade from Windows 95.
Should be okay with Windows 98/ME/2000.
Are you sure you have the right product key?
I have three partitions on my test machine,98, XP and XP German,
it works fine.
Check the build, if less than 2462 (beta 2), you might have
unexpected trouble.
Need more info like computer conf and XP build to figure things
out.
