standby saves current data in memory and turns off everything
else (needs small current to keep memory). you get back to
your current state quicker when you wake it up.
hiberation saves current data to hard drive, then shut off
computer completely. you need enough disk space and it takes
longer to get back to your current state when you wake it up.
