i think your problem is because you changed your hard drive after you
installed XP. It is considered as a "major change" of configuration by
MS XP. They used to to deter illegal mutiple installation with one copy.
Two solution: go to find a crack XP, or call MS to activate it since you
said you have a legit copy. Good luck.
btw, why don't you use both HD? and keep the 40G as a secondary HD?

This is absolutely right!
An upgrade install + troubleshooting >> clean install +
other soft install (U wr using 98, i do not think u have
too much large soft on ur sys.)

Nobody here understood your situation but just gave you very funny
suggestions. They just don't know if you loaded a lot of stuff
you really don't like to reinstall verything, not only the OS,
but also various software packages. That's why Ghost is here.
Your problem is not unique. This is because WinXP has an activation
mechanism which is aware of hardware changes. It is obvious that
MS should do something when WinXP is cloned, where the hard disk
is so different that illegal copies may follow.
