which 8 did you pass? how long have you been in the states and how would you evaluate your English skills? just wondering, since I have never taken an essay exam will be doing that this May. Feel like I am disadvantaged because of the writing..... =( and all the readings, of course. Congrats to you though!

i took c8 finance. most people do not have time to write down the complete sentences in the upper level exams. we just outlined the keywords we memorized. so you are not as disadvantaged as you thought. as long as you prepare enough, i dont think you need to worry about your writing. i am going to take finance/erm csp this spring. how about you? good luck!
English skills? this May. Feel like I am disadvantaged because of the writing..... =( and all the readings, of course.

Standard girl, your English is just fine (no worries). They (graders) really look for the key (bullet) points and calculation steps . I was told by a FSA in my office who grades course 8 every year. Good luck in May!

thanks everyone for the reply. Yes, I am studying for Finance/ERM CSP right now. I am so exhuasted already from studying......sigh, I really should have started earlier, especially with FAP1 in Feb...... =( Studying is just not fun, so tired with work and everything......

Standard girl, I think you are stretching yourself with AF/ERM CSP + FAP1. What's the rush? Isn't FAP1 going to be offered pretty frequently throughout the year? Jumping from the FAP modules straight into a 6-hour ESSAY exam, you might be in for a major shock. People who sat for the old Course 5 or 6 (both are 5- hour essay exams) before would have an upper hand. Most Chinese are slow writters, that's another disadvantage in addition to English not being the first language. Start practice writin

okgirl Congrats on passing 8F... Are you writing the CSP in May for fun???? If you have passed 5 and 6, just go ahead get 7 and start to earn 15 PD credits at the same time. You have Oct. this year to fulfil the PD requirement.

My bad...I just realized that the C7 pre-test is no longer offered. So 7 is out of the question for you. You could have done the pre-test last year and placed your bet on passing 8 (which you did). That way you could get into the seminar this year and get your PD before Oct. 1-8 plus PD, DONE... Good luck anyway....

I am done with FAP1 modules long time ago, just need to take the test and review all the materials for the test. The next time FAP1 is offered is in August, and with DP being held in Nov, it will be the exact same situation as Feb-May right now......(Aug-Nov vs Feb-May) =) 3 people in my company are doing the same thing...hehehe, and I wasn't the one pushing for it in the first place.
throughout be 5- right

If she's had anything from the new system, it won't work for her, or if she' s missing anything for PD requirement, she would have to take CSP and finish with the new system. A guy from my company is in the same boat pretty much. He passed 8 but still needs to sit for CSP. He doesn't qualify to complete a PD project, and he's gone through 7 already (just waiting for C7's result).
is 8

Slipper: Unfortunately you are stuck with the CSP even if you pass FAP-1 in Feb., because you don't have 5 and the 7 Pre-test needed to start the PD process. On the brighter side, since you've already studied and passed 8V on the first try you should have a HUGE leg up on the APM CSP in May (I heard that there are lots of overlappings between those two syllabuses). Good luck!

Hi Standardgirl, just out of curiosity, where did you get the information that the next time FAP exam 1 is offered will be August? I kept checking the soa website but seems they haven't released when the next time is. I was guessing it'll be offered again in May/June so they could make it 4 times a year. BTW, I passed 8 in November too. So excited to have got it out of way, and congrats to all that have passed exams in November!

Looks like Chinese are definitely taking over the actuarial industry! 8IU, one of the courses requires the least math skills has over 50% of the passing candidates with Chinese names. Who said Chinese are only good with math? We will see 20-30 new FSAs from the mainland alone this year. Way to go!!!! 8IU passing candidates Agan, Michael Joseph Aginsky, Luba Anderson Allen, Jessica A Bachman, Kathleen Kelly Bausch-Ward, Lesley A Berns, Neil Andrew Bijur, Ryan G Borress, Alex David Buchanan, James
