This is called mobbing, to cooperatively drive away potential predators. It
can be predicted there is a blackbird nest around.
I am always thinking how they perceive another species as a danger, because
red-tailed hawks typically prey on mammals instead of birds.

I am more curious how they "drive away" the hawk. It looks to me the hawk is
simply much bigger and stronger, even compared to two of them together.

You would avoid a place with many mosquitoes, right? The size difference
between you and the insect is even bigger, isn't it? From the hawk's point
of view, these are exactly the same situation.

From your angle, you are bothered by the mosquitoes; from their perspectives
, they desperately need your blood to reproduce, which is #1 important thing
in their lives.
Same thing for the blackbirds: they would risk their lives to protect youngs
. In a scenario shown above, the blackbirds are far from 100% safe.
