IRS的网站上会说，如果父母Maintain a tax home in a foreign country during the
year，那么还是算non-resident alien。这是不是说原则上来说，只要父母在国内有
工资，交税，那就不能在美国跟着我按dependent报税？只不过没人查罢了。是吧？谢
谢！

writing because I have an usual question to ask: The PLos One paper will
cost $3750 in publication fees. My grant money cannot cover this right now (
all allocated for salaries). So I wanted to ask if we could split up the

靠下的部分有一条：The closer connection exception available to all aliens.
Please refer to Conditions for a Closer Connection to a Foreign Country.
点进去，第二条说：你只能视作 non-resident alien 如果 Maintain a tax home in
a foreign country during the year (Refer to Chapter 28 of Publication 17 for
a discussion of the tax home concept)。

我感觉那3条的关系不是and,而是or。也就是说有一条不满足，你就是non-resident
alien。我还是想带我父母去IRS office试试，行就行，不行就算了。

plos genetics收2250 印象里plos系列从来都这么贵也许我记错了 OA的杂志总体
都要贵不少 plos one更是贵得离谱

It is not very worthy to pay for PloS ONE out of your own pocket.
If it is PLoS Biology or Genetics then you can think about it.
I suggest you to write back by saying that you are very constrained
financially right now and you would have big difficulty to come up with $
1000. Ask him to check with the department chair and see if they can
temporarily allocate $3500 right now from the overhead funding.

Anyway, it's horrible. It's not that I can not afford it. But it's unheard
of that a student have to pay for the publication fee.

Ask your advisor to seek help from his dept. The dept usually has money to
cover for it.
You should not have to pay.

If I were you, I will make a deal with him/her. You can pay $1,250 only if
you are co-corresponding author. By the way, the PLoS ONE is that expensive
, we published several over there. Good luck!

Ask your advisor to contact PLOS ONE for a fee reduction/waiver. They'll
do that when the authors are under financial hardship and cannot pay for
the open access fee. It's unheard of for a student to pay for his/her own
paper.

Well, it is not very surprising! I sometime share my authorship with
others for having them to pay this fee although it is too much but nonsense
and costly. But this price is too high. I had received such a price when
there were color images and over the page limit. A few questions and
suggestions:
1. As an NIH author, one should pay for publication because it is covered by
NIH grant. One item in NIH grant budget is the meeting and publication.
Your PI should have this money if he has NIH
