Learnt a new trick from Joe Buissink about using flash in TTL mode, bouncing
light off walls instead of ceilings. This way you get a directional light
from one side instead of flat light from above. Also you don't have to worry
about the power setting of the flash. I know lots of pros only use flash in
manual mode, and off camera, but Canon's 580EX II is such a powerful/smart
flash, if you don't study the TTL and make good use of it, you are wasting
it. The light bouncing off a wall is a huge light source, and the light will
wrap around to create beautiful shadows. In this photo, I face my cat to a
wall, and bounced light off that wall. Look at the catch light in her eyes.
It looks like the cat is facing a window.
