An absolutely true in a protocol someone gave me once: "We added 888 uL
because it's a lucky number in China."
Comment: Science can be a game of luck so why not increase you chances.
To confirm the findings, we decided to repeat the same experiments in our
collaborator's lab...in Hawaii
Comment: Collaborate with people who work somewhere you want to travel
10 min=had to pee, 30 min=coffee break, 1 hour=lunch time, 72 hours=
weekend, 1 week=went on holiday, 4 weeks=forgot about it, 6 months=someone
took over project, 2 years = found in cupboard
Comment: what those weird time points actually mean
1.124 grams of material was used because thats all there was in the pot and
Sigma were out of stock.
Comment: Sometimes you just have to make do.
Incubation lasted three days because this is how long the undergrad forgot
the experiment in the fridge.
Comment: Well you can't always expect undergrads to remember everything (
anything)...
We didn't test as many clams as oysters because we're pretty sure someone
found the samples and ate them.
Comment: Well I'm not sure this is a common lab problem but someone eating
your work would definitely be a problem.
We grew the cells in DMEM not GMEM because I couldn't read the handwriting
of whoever froze them last time.
Comment: The importance of labelling, unless you don't want people "
borrowing" you reagents. I am currently learning Japanese for labelling
purposes.
