Re. In this field, for postdocs, opportunity is more important than the scientific qualities (e.g. motivation, hard working, technique, literature understanding)
You do not hire lawyers to fill in the forms for you only. With experiences and expertise, you are buying the peace of mind. If you DIY, you only have one opportunity (to ruin or win). Once you mess up, pretty much no attorney would take your case, or take it at even higher price. But review your contract with the lawyer, you may have a good chance to terminate it before the attorney files I-485 for you. Attorneys have code of conduct to follow at state bar. Besides, most attorneys do not forc
You can't get into a top lab if you are not highly qualified. So still your own qualification is the ultimate determinant.

I don't get it. So you are saying that even if you work hard, you won't be able to do these two things. Btw, please define top lab, my Ph.D. PI didn't get tenure and my post-doc boss who no one knows him even though he is one of most tenured professor in his institution for over 30 years with multiple R01 through out his career. I turn out okay.

I just don't understand why you are so angry with Obama. I would say he is a very decent person with strong will and great courage. Are you racism? if you are, you are deserved to be discriminated.

There is always plenty of room at the top
