I think in China's political or Chinese culture system, 学而优则仕 sometimes
is a must, for many different reasons
In US, you can keep very low key and low status and do good science for many
years. I don't think in current China it's the same.

既然你提到Jen Sheen,我就提前写写她。跟前面几位偶像比起来,我跟Jen Sheen总归
有一面之缘。我曾经邀请过她做talk,并一起吃了晚饭,还聊了很久。我也曾想过去她
实验室,不过最后打了退堂鼓。一是听了一些负面的说法,而是她要求很高,我掂量自
己感觉不够格。
她名字特别,实际上是台湾人。在harvard读的PhD,是我做rotation实验室老板以前的
师妹。她给我的感觉是有自己强烈的主见和想法。对科研对学生薄厚要求都很高。
她住在实验室附近,走路就可以到。她告诉我自从20年前拿到驾照之后就没开过车了。
对她来说,生活就是实验室。尽管她参加很多会议,但是感觉并不social,也很少到处
跟人合作。另外,她的英语并不perfect,多少让我有些意外。因为就她这么勤奋的人
来说,我觉得她对任何事情都该力求完美。
她公开的介绍比较少。但是从发文章来看,她大约是83年到88左右在harvard读PhD。我
跟她聊天的时候偶尔抱怨当时的老板对我的课题没有想法。她告诉我说她博士的老板不
怎么管她。所以要自己管自己,自己独立去做。她很有主见和行动力,博士期间独自一
口气发了7篇文
