最近MITBBS及其它网站上有很多关于所谓变态教授的讨论. 甚至有人出了一本名为变态
恶魔教授合集供人网上瞻仰. 其中以针对中国教授的居多.
仔细看帖子内容, 发现抱怨大多源于教授对实验室的学生或者博士后push太过, 比如规
定每周最小工小时数, 或者周末要求加班等等. 其实, 这样的教授大多都是对己对人都
有严格要求, 工作异常勤奋, 极力追求成功的人士. 他们都有自己的人生奋斗哲学, 因
此也希望自己实验室的人都能够象他们自己一样努力并且成功. 但是不幸的是, 不同人
的思维方式总是有差别的. 给一筐葡萄, 有的人总是选择最小的吃, 有的人总是从最大
的开吃. 矛盾根源在于上帝往往开玩笑把这两不同种人放在同一个房间吃同一筐葡萄.
特别是, 教授们在招人的时候也没有天赋本领来预先区分和自己天性不同的人.
作为一个PI, 我非常能够理解这样的教授(虽然我自己早就懒得push学生了). 希望这些
上网抱怨的学生能设身处地的想想, 教授push你多做工作多出文章, 最大的受益人其实
是你自己. 你做得再好对教授自己的私人利益并没有直接的联系. 当然, 每个教授手中
的funding以及实验室的位置都是有限的. 每招一个人做什么项目都是经过仔细认真的
设计和考虑. 如果不幸碰到一个完全不干活不出东西又似乎无所谓的学生或者博后, 他
们心中的焦虑是可想而知的. 但是我相信大多教授, 无论是中国人还是美国人, 本身对
学生都是没有恶意的(虽然表现出来的东西有差异).
网上很多抱怨PI的帖子动辄就是一句"我TMD为你卖了多少多少年的命", 似乎他们一切
都是为教授做了一场义务劳动似的. 也不想想自己原来也从这场"义务劳动"中学到的知
识以及在科学上脱胎换骨的成长变化. 毕竟是那个你所抱怨的教授为你提供了这样的研
究机会以及薪水(很多人抱怨不够多) - 他本来是可以提供给另一个和你一起申请也许
比你更强的人的. 如果你觉得这个教授不适合你的成长, 那么就象你当年巴巴地给他递
交申请书一样, 递交一份辞职申请书走开就够了. 道不同不相为谋. 而在网上这样肆无
意禅的攻击本来至少客观上与你有恩的人, 只能让人对发贴人的心态以及炎凉的世态感
到悲哀.

如果你买了股票，你的股票是不会损失的，broker都有clearing company的

It's SIPC insured. It will protect you from brokerage firm bankruptcy
or fraud but not protect you against market losses.

long as you got any bonus for opening an investment account, you will not be

't be fooled even if the system suggests it accepts the promotion code. You
won't see the money ever come. I've learnt this in a hard way. This apply
notonly to this promotion but all the promotions of Sharebuilder. BTW, if
you apply a differnt type of account, say IRA, then surely you can still get
bonus. But bonus of each type are ONE-TIME.

我觉得你可以赌运气或者发信问一问CSR(不知道这个会不会违反do-not-call rule)。
但是我曾经输入code，被Sharebuilder也接受了，结果到后来左等右等看不到钱。一问
说之前拿到过，所以再开同类型帐户不能再给bonus了。别太信任Sharebuilder的
confirmation。
当然也许这次就不同。所以安全的说法应该是YMMV

have been with ShareBuilder for >5 yrs
some points
1. account opening bonuses are tied to ssn, one bonus per ssn. but you can
open custodian accounts for you kids to get bonuses
2. not hard pull unless you apply for margin account
3. no 1099 from brokerage accounts if the bonus or cash value is less than $
600
4. securities are SIPC insured, cash is either FDIC insured or swept in a
money market fund (breaking the buck is very, very rare), and earn interests

有点confusion,那些收到ING $200邀请的email应该是qualify的吧。

首先恭喜你，欢迎到了该拿到bonus时候（approximately 4-6 weeks after your
first $10,000 deposit）来版上更新收到没有。很遗憾，我过去的经验是很有可能拿
不到。
不过话说回来，即使这次没有拿到，未来有新的offer，你还是eligible的。同样成立
的是，一旦某次拿到了，不论多少，你就permanantly lose the eligibily of
receiving new bonus in this type account in future. 当然这是我的经验，欢迎过
来人举出反例。
