Although the game hasn’t formally get started (based on my estimate, the
EB1 petition probably hasn’t been filed yet), already, I feel I can make

刚过完独木桥，马上也要成为AP了。很想听听大家对招博后和研究生的经验。
听了无数从大牛到新AP的告诫：新AP挑人一定无比小心，宁愿不招也不要招不合适的。
头几个人对实验室未来影响很大。
不知道在哪些学校新AP还有可能挑到好博后？Top5 or top10 in good cities？

好博后不会选Ap吧我觉得。。一般几个原则，院士/hhmi，每年至少一篇正刊，之前出
去的找到top20学校ap的多，学校好只是最最基本的。新ap找一个听话勤快的就挺好的
了，好多之前做的一般的你抓得紧一点也能出东西。

我等了12个月（这是极限了），差不多有些结果了（还有待确认）。我很理解等待的焦
灼。
我的建议：如果不是急等着用绿卡，如果自己的case不是很强，等着！就当是对自己的
一种锻炼了，不要搞不搞就把自己的血汗钱扔给贪婪的狗。

的确AP比较难招到好学生几大名校的除外
经常见的是从国内招
新ap搭实验室还是耗不少时间的国内过开学生比较肯干，心气也比较低
可以当薄厚+半个lab manager

你是说找一双勤快手就可以了？好学校的AP现在都是宁愿招研究生也不要一般的博后。
我博后实验室想来的挤破头，很多都是自带经费，进来了能找到top20 AP的人不到10%。

好学校AP找到能干学生的几率还可以，据说比博后大很多。

I will need the i140 receipt for my h1 transfer, since the time to deadline
is ticking, i become more and more anxious.
You are probably right about PP, i understand it perfectly well, but
emotionally i don't know whether i can take/stand it...
by the way, i admire your patience...

除非学校牛的很，否则新ap也就招招印度的学生和博士后吧，国内搬运都不那么好骗了

非常理解lz，我也差不多在此状态中，有时想想自己做好自己该做的事，剩下的交给上
帝去处理。大不了回国，绿卡不是人生最重要的事情，美国的情况10年之后还真不知道
怎么样，看看非法移民和政治避难的几个月拿到绿卡就知道
还有用工作或其他事情来平衡吧，我现在生活基本就是绿卡申请和工作，申请想多了就
想工作

对哒，好多top 10的full professor都更爱招学生，因为生源质量比博后要好不少。我
认识的很多不错的美国学生phd期间都跟的是ap最后也不错呢。如果实在觉得出东西慢
要找博后，确实要好好选才行

你退一步想想绿卡到底有多重要，就不这么着急了。
我就想，如果绿卡下来了，我会怎么样呢？
答案就是，大笑三声，然后继续在暗无天日的地下室里干千老。

你看，你自己也不愿意加ap实验室对不对？10%overall 不算大牛也挺好的了。不过我
指的是，找到教职的人里面top20的比例，有些大牛做的好但出去的有top20水平
punlication的博后最后都去了50开外的地方，我的觉得除了老板水平和老板人品也是
分不开的。

嗯，日子依旧。不过有身份了，精神压力会小很多。换好工作可能还是不容易，虽然机
会多了。

如果你是好学校的新PI，先尽量找好的博士生。博后要慢慢打广告慢慢选。

Go for pp then.
Both my hubby's and my H1b need to be renewed in this September. I decided
to go for 140+pp even though my case is pretty week.

comments on PP, if you have one?
i hope i can hear from my lawyer soon, last time i heard from him was 1 week
ago. although i have assaulted him pretty badly by sending emails and
leaving messages ever since, still have no idea of his progress.

I would suggest you to go for pp especially in your present situation. My
situation is pretty bad and complicated, and my case is pretty weak as well
(see my post for detail). However, I would rather get a quick result (good
or bad) than wait and be tortured. Best luck!

He has no comments on pp.I had bad experience with my lawyer too. Although
he promised to file my case in 2 weeks after he received my materials, He
didn't file my case until >1 month even I keep pushing them :(

当然还会有不同啦。不过既然还没拿到，就使劲儿想拿了也没用，你就不那么郁闷了。
我要往好处想的话，我周围一大堆要我这个专业的大国防企业，很多都是绿卡也能进的
。我又有些connection。拿了卡之后搞个钱多事少离家近的位置比干千老好多了。
但我要这么想的话，那在等待阶段心情肯定很不爽，因为期望值太高。特别是如果有点
不顺利啥的，得郁闷死。所以我就给自己洗脑，天天跟自己说绿卡屁用没有，说着说着
心情就宁静了，就该干啥干啥了。
我的两分钱啦。

Come on, are you kidding me? depressed by worried about talking to your
lawyer about your normal petition. YOU haven't had any taste of how really
stressful the life can be.
Just be grateful that you are eligible to apply for Eb1 and very likely you
will get it smoothly. Think about people have to wait for years for the
priority date become current. And other people in more miserable life.

your case is not too bad -- it is about average i think. plus you are able
to file EB1B, which, by definition, is much safer than EB1A. once i confirm
with my lawyer regarding the filing status (hope that will happen soon), i
will then decide whether or not PP (most likely yes). i may need to consult with
you about the process then...

you know what, my lawyer had promised me the same thing (actually he said
one to two weeks), and i was very happy about it. anyway i worked very hard
to collect the supporting documents as fast as i can, in order to give him
enough time for petition letter and filing, due to the contingency of my h1
transfer. after he received the document, i asked him how he thought about my case and whether he was able to file the petition in 2 week. he then
demanded over a hundred dollars for "express filing and shipping"...

i am very much worried about h1 transfer, which is rather demanding and
urgent at the point.
i am not sure whether you are talking about your own situation. if yes, and
i happen to succeed in my EB1 petition, i can introduce my lawyer to you. i
decided to work with him only because nobody else thought i stood a chance
in EB1 (so you can image my case is quite problematic as well). if he can
help me, he will very likely help you as well.
