1, for salary, check out the link below. But be aware many PIs do not
follow this guideline.

2, Benefits will depend on your title (research scientist v.s. research
fellow). I believe you will have health insurance coverage. Fresh postdocs
typically don't get retirement benefits from Columbia. I think you can call
directly HR at Columbia to find out your benefits once you get the offer
letter.

Thanks so much for your reply. I am waiting for the offer letter now. So I
don't need to talk over the insurance coverage with the PI, since it seems
to be mainly decided by the university.

没，我基本放弃曼哈顿和波士顿了～拖家带口活不了～在大农村生活惯了就是不好啊，
到哪都觉得贵的要死～

有孩子的话， 还是在消费水平低一点的地方生活比较舒服一些。

Don't come to Manhattan for a postdoc if you have little kids (<3 years) or
are planning to have one soon. However, I think if your little ones are like
3-4 years or older, Manhattan might not be too bad. There are lots of
activity preschoolers can enjoy.

就是刚出生的小孩，而且在大农村待习惯了，受不了城里那样的，所以还是打算找个小
城市好的实验室，就不去挤那些大名校了...
