听说很多学生物的有转行做consulting 或者business的。。。不知道这个对我实不实
际，请各位过来人给些指点，谢了先。
前一阵在生物的板上看见一个帖子，关于学生物的phd转作financial的，很是受了一些
鼓舞，先说说我的情况：
在国内学医的，到这边读的生化的phd，现在就要毕业了，选择有两个：1.先postdoc，
之后争取进公司，就是走research的路；2.边postdoc边学学financial analysis的课
，以后向biotech&phama 的分析方面转。我自己对investment之类的东西很有兴趣，以
前高中大学的时候数学物理很好，对数字比较敏感。前一阵有个上business school的
小孩向我请教有关数学的东西，发现他们学的简直太简单了，那个小孩也说觉得很
surprise，他怎么也想不明白的东西我一给他讲他就全会了。。。但是如果真的要转行
自己心里还是没有把握，主要是对于这个行业很不了解，不知道要学的东西有多少，另
外也不知道自己的性格适不适合。我不是一个很organized的人，有时候有点迷糊。可
以接受长时间工作，但是绝对不能昼夜

sure it's possible.
but doing well in business normally has nothing to do with math.

听一个过来人（美国人）说先要在sell-side做，之后转到buy-side；而且很多人就是
只做quantity的工作，并没有很多能做到analysist。在sell-side一般做些什么？在网
上看见一些帖子说一些sell-side的工作就好像把你扔到水中，能自己挣扎着学会的就
留下来，其他的就都被淘汰了，真的那么惨烈吗？

大部分pharmaceutical analyst都或多或少有些biotech的background,虽然很少是phd.
能进sell side再说吧，别想那么长远了。别说biotech,整个security industry里面都
没多少中国人做analyst

能具体说说sell side做什么吗，需要什么素质，writing的要求高吗？30岁了，是不是
太晚了？

Well, I just read the first sentence of this posting and nothing else. My
experience was that I tried it 15 years ago and no company even called me
back. If you get a job offer, then you can start thinking about this
question. Otherwise, it is just daydreaming.

not to dicourage LZ, but i also tried it 5 years ago. It will be very very
tough to even get an interview.

to be an analyst has almost nothing to do with biology .
it is all about business, accounting, and personal skills.
just being able to understand the names of the drugs and what
they do is sufficient .

During earnings season, almost all sell side analysts have to deal with
sleep deprivation. So if you need 8 hours of sleep everyday, you probably
need to think again. Sell side requires a lot of tenacity - it is a
rewarding career for many, but a lot of people don't like it.
