Position description The successful candidate is expected to lead the development and application of mathematical models which are required to describe the performance of equipment and processes in the materials processing industries (chemicals, petrochemicals, coal, etc.). A majority of the work involves the development and application of process model libraries and systems modeling frameworks to support process development and optimization.
Job responsibilities Projects typically involve modeling of new and existing processes for process development and improvement. The individual must be able to work with a team to define the model requirements, develop the equations which govern a given phenomenon, implement these equations in an equation oriented simulation environment, verify the model implementation, and validate the model stand alone and in a systems context. The individual must be able to use mathematical optimization techniques to solve product and process design problems.
Required skills/experience A M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in a process systems modeling and applied mathematics or numerical methods is required. A detailed understanding of chemical engineering science and model validation is also required. Ability to work independently and as a team member is also required. Proficiency in reading chemical engineering literatures and books written in English is required.
Other skills desired but not required for this position are: computer programming experience, CFD modeling experience, reaction and separation systems experience (laboratory or industrial), process control experience, excellent oral and written English.
