Come on, Zher, your PC connects to a access switch, it sure does not send out
STP BPDUs, but the switch itself will participate spanning tree for that
access VLAN.

no routing protocols involved yet besides PNNI, but all ATM VCs are just up
and working fine

ok, seems we have a bit missunderstanding here.
I am taling about the the psudo bridging port, say the pvc 0/34 (interface atm
xxx.1), the psudo port IS in the STP (per vlan based), and IS in the VLAN,
however, the multiple ports are all in FWD mode, some of which should be
blocked by STP

There are no routing protocols involved in MPB, and there are no atm switch
issues involved either.
There are many aspects of ATM MPB, which part do you want to discuss?

if everything is working as designed, I agree.
the thing is, there IS a loop because of the incorrect STP on the bridging
domain.
