【在 Y**L 的大作中提到】 : one hot direction is the toxicity of nanomaterial to biota

My advisor has a 400K project from EPA focusing on toxicity of carbon nanotube. It's interesting but takes time to get experimental results. The good thing is to get paper published easier once summarizing the data.

I don't know why you have this kind of feeling. As a matter of fact, with increasing applications in different fields, more and more manomaterials will be found in nature, like water. People still feel uncertain about the ultimate impacts of nanomaterials on human health. To some extent it's necessary to do more researches on this. I don't want to argue if there are any difference between carbon nanotubes and fibers or their dispersivity and purity, but usually I will do some literature reviews

impacts of natural and engineered nanomaterials are significantly different. Natural nanoparticles are normally nanocrystals with low concentration while engineered ones can be all different types. And when released, these manmade NPs can be more stably present at much higher concentrations with a lot more toxicity.
research on impact of nanopartical on environment is a direct. However, many are trying to use nanomaterial on environment. it is a dead end to me. However, this is a field to get research moeny and to get a lot publications. To get real use in environment, god knows.

"can" means possible here. As nanomaterial production is scaled up, no doubt that the chance of their intentional or unintentional release into the environment is exponentially increasing. Even though we can compare nanomaterials to some known particles, such as carbon fibers and virus particles, we cannot just assume they have the same properties and environmental impacts.
Have you ever done any research in nanoparticle synthesis? Or carbon nanotube? I am not saying the emerging nano-industry will not cause pollution. My point is many people may overestimate its potential impact based on my experience.
doubt

这就不是科学问题了,成了心理问题。

I do prepare np in the lab, but cannot call it research. i guess you are from che, chem, material dept. as an environmentalists, you should not question the need for nano-research
