yes you can, but it takes time.
what you do is exactly like how power company secure their electric poles.
first, put a metal anchor rod or spike to ground (anchor is easier), then
attach the string to the tree so that you can pull against tree leaning
direction.
you have to constantly pull and tight the string until the tree is straight.
if you have an anchor, you simply tight the screw.

by the way, I saw some people don't let tree grow in straigh for purpose.
for example, like jap maple, it will be much beautiful if you let it grow in
lean direction and trim it well.
if you don't want to spend too much effor to make it straight, I suggest to
trim it nicely to make a nice shape.
