The two other months after H1 expires really has nothing to be recaptured. employer will file an extension with consulate notification, but the proposed employment period will be hard to set, because you only have 30(or 29) unused H1 days. Quite possible the USCIS to-be-approved 30 days period will be completely wasted in your waiting for processing time, mailing time and time to get a visa stamp.

you can recapture the time. if you have an 140 approval, then it becomes unlimited extension. good luck to you.
