i used to have cable service and now want to switch to dsl service. i have
cable line and cable router. do you guys think that i can just use this
equipment rather than buy a telephone service and activate the telephone line?

nope
most of the time equipment is free with dsl service anyway.

use my cable line in stead? thanks.

depends on company I guess. but usually you get everything you need and a lot
of things you don't even need.
