I am in the same situation deciding what to buy. VFINX, FMSKX or etf index.
V: 0.15% 3K min no account close fee
F: 0.10% 10K min $50 to close account
SPY: 0.10%
Need to open a new IRA account and plunge 10K (2008 and 2009 combined). Not
necessarily buy the index funds immediately but have to at least park the
2008 money in a money market fund there and watch.
If ever plan to get etf, would go fido. with vg would need a separate
brokage account to buy etf. with fido no need for a separate ac

If you trade less than once per year, you should go with VFINX.
I don't like close account fees, hehe.
