被一个大牛说不comfortable给我写,因为不认识我well, 找了一个办过绿卡的朋友看
,他说你应该先问人家愿不愿意写,然后再发信告诉人家category,大家觉得呢
Dear Professor XXX,
Sorry for the intrusion.
My name is XXX and currently I am working as a XXX in the XXX. I received my
PhD degree from XXX. My PhD advisor is Professor XXX and my research was
mainly focused on XXX, which was partly based on the previous works
including yours.
Recently I plan to apply for permanent residency (green card) here in the
United States. To show that I qualify for permanent residency, I need to
convince the immigration official that I have made many contributions to
science research. Supporting letters from famous professors/researchers will
be of great help. Especially, the immigration officials like the letters
from the independent referees (who do not personally know me), instead of
collaborators, advisors or friends.
I am wondering if you would like to write such a recommendation letter for
me. You are one of the most famous scientists in theoretical astrophysics,
and I am glad that one of your papers has cited my publication. So I believe
your letter will be very convincing to the immigration officials. It would
be of great significance and could largely determine the success of my
application. Because the category within which I'm applying requires a
demonstration of an extraordinary research ability, the letter will likely
contain words like "extraordinary", "exceptional", "brilliant", etc. I'd
like to emphasize that this application is not a job application. It is only
for the permanent residency.
I understand you may be extremely busy. If you agree, I will send you a
draft (prepared by my attorney) of such letter, so that you can further
modify the draft at your convenience. Also if you do agree, this letter/
draft will indicate that:
1) what about my work you know about,
2) how you know about it (e.g. this or that publication), and,
3) how my work has affected your own work, if at all (The influence of
someone’s work on the work of others is often considered the most important
factor in judging the significance of the work by many immigration
officials who review this type of application).
Attached is my CV for your reference. I really appreciate it if you could do
me this favor.
Sincerely yours,
XXX
