比较好运，拿到了三个口头offer，还没说工资
有点问题想请教大家
nvidia 的算是core的组，amazon是很core的组
想进amazon多一些，但是nvidia 的recruiter 说他们可以立即办绿卡 (跟H1B一起办)
Amazon说一般进公司半年后才办
可以跟amazon 的recruiter negotiate 吗?
Career重要，还是绿卡重要？
希望大家帮忙给些意见

It make a big diff. You need to lock your Priority Date as early as possible.

最可笑的就是经常看到有人提及core组的。
如果是刚毕业的，还可以理解。过三四年后，你回头看一下，就知道自己当年认为的
core组的概念有多可笑。

我觉得所谓CORE　GROUP就是好象去NV，如果是GPU　GROUP就是CORE了，如果是去做HR
，就不算CORE。其实也没那么严格。

我觉得就是做公司比较赚钱的产品吧，经济不好的时候不至于第一轮被裁掉或者整个组
被端掉，挺正常
的concern阿。

一：core group 不是一般底下的小兵可以定义的。那种从第一或者第二层manager嘴里
忽悠的根本不算。
二：公司focus／priority重点会随着时间的推移和市场地变化不停地变化，各个层次
的VP每天干什么呢？不就是找这些priority，然后执行吗？
三：即使你知道哪个组的产品挣得最多，那也可能是绝对值。要是分到人头上的价值不
高，非常可能会先被先裁。
once you are at a higher level in the company, it would be clearer to you
that it is all about money, especially money divided by resources ...

Thanks for your very useful comments. I agree that some managers/recruiters
are exaggerating the functions of the teams.
Their nature of work seems to be like that:
1. amazon's team: 50%design + 50% implement (most team members have proven
records of designing/making successful products)
2. nvidia's team: enabling/enhancing GPU to do general purpose paralleling
computations
3. cisco's team: not sure [Indian manager]
I like (1) more, but seems a green card is more important??

know:
1. working environment is extremely important. try to stay away from
indian managers or a lot indian co-workers. however, i know it is almost a
luxury in the computer industry to do so in the bay area today.
2. nvidia is one of the worst companies, not to mention comparing it with
Amazon and cisco. in contrary, amazon is the best among the three.
3. you don't even know which cisco team it is, do you?

the team has a good working environment.
i know a few not-good (in terms of skills) friends who are working in nvidia
and ironically, they all complain the company a lot: working overtime, no
bonus, reduce salary due to economy down turn ....

one friend at Nvidia told me "be prepared for long long hours if you come
here"
over time in Nvidia seems to be on regular basis
but not many people have multiple choices like LZ
I do not know anything about cisco and amazon tho

Yes, Yes, and Yes.
All "qualified" managers, in all companies, will say their groups are the
core of the cores in their companies. If they don't say so, they should be
fired.
For experienced engineers, if you do believe those BS, you should be fired
also.

AMAZON 的offer 很不错，和我知道的 PhD的offer 几乎一样，除了RSU 略少一点，但
bonus 更多。
高手介绍介绍准备的经验和面经吧。

升级看老板吧不过听说工资涨的都慢

想跟 amazon negotiate 一下job title 跟package，不知会不会令他们觉得我太贪心....
只怕negotiate 不成给收回offer.....另外，工资高了，老板的期望是不是也高很多的？还是，他们也期待我们negotiate 的？

发了封email，想不到他们一口答应了给 SDE 2，估计negotiate title 可能比package
容易
请问amazon申绿卡，是否只需︰
(1) work 6 months.
(2) SDE 2 or above.
还有其他hidden conditions的吗？
问HR 也不答我了，大概嫌我太烦...

cisco later offers me a 90k + 8% bonus package
not sure if it is a normal package. but not as attractive as the other two
cisco also mentions that they process green card for their top performers

恩 stay away from nvda 让我意外的是竟然还在招人我认识的朋友里面都在找工作呢
cisco 养老的地方，我认识的从那里出来的人都巨懒无比
amazon 我觉得最有潜力和实力的公司之一当然之选

the HR told me that SDE II == level 5
but they didn't mention I or II in my offer letter
worry about being cheated... sigh
