I got a car accident. When I was driving from school towards the subway
station, a kid ran to my left side of the car. Unfortunately he got hurt.
but luckily, all the physical exams indicated he's OK. He was running so
fast crossing the road from the side-road of my left side. Even though I
drove slowly and carefully checked the crosswalk, I didn't realize he was
running towards my car until he was close to my car. A car just passed from
the opposite direct hid him. It was too late.
He was not on the crosswalk, about five meters away from the crosswalk.
I'm sure there was nobody on the crosswalk and I drove quite carefully.
Since it happened near a crosswalk for pedestrian, his parents insisted I
hit him and he was pushed 5 meters away from the crosswalk. It is definitely
unacceptable. Even though I feel so sorry for the kid, it is not my fault,
I'd like to say. I followed the rules and common sense. However, it seems I
have to get into a legal battle.
Logically, how fast should I drive to push the kid five meters and how badly
would he have got hurt? We even don't think about this possibility. However
, the police department still asked us to find a witness.
I want to ask If I should find a lawyer. If so, do you have any
recommendations?
What else should I do?
Thank you for your help
