OPT只有一年时间，非工作状态只能有90天时间。如果去一家公司工作，该公司帮忙办
了h1b，加入不幸被layoff了，这个h1b还有效么？还是必须利用原来那个OPT继续重找
工作？

有时候不得不承认，小日本在传承与发扬古典中华文化上还是很有一套的，书法、茶道
、建筑、音乐等等。
这段时间迷上了喜多郎的音乐，发现不少很赞的配乐以及上世纪流行电视剧里的音乐：
推荐一下宋家皇朝，丝绸之路系列，还有一首大蛇（多年前新加坡电视剧莲花争霸的插
曲，听到的一刹那有恍如隔世的感觉）。

when H1b is approved, your OPT is invalid.
when being laid-off, you have nothing left.
Then chance is that you find another job and transfer your H1.
or you have to change your status back to F1/F2, H4/J2 etc.

Your OPT will be expired after your H-1B status become effective.
If you get laid off in H-1B status, you need transfer to other visa (F-1/F-2
/H-4) to keep your status legal.

Theoretically there is zero day of grace period. But in reality, a couple of
months are fine. So be quick to find your next employer.

legally no grace period,
but it is not strictly executed.
Usually you negotiate with your previous employer, ask them
to delay the date of layoff so that you can find another job or file
your application to adjust status such that there is no gap.
I once was denied to change my status due the gap after layoff ,
however I managed to get my visa in Canada later.
