on average, I can only work 8 hours each day for 6 days per week.
yesterday, I graded 6 papers, each about 13 pages long without references.
then I can't go any further. feel
very tired and then stopped and watched a movie.
Maybe there is no hope for me to get tenure.

how many do you expect yourself to grade in one day?
don't push yourself too hard.

For a short period of my life, I worked mor than 12 hours a day for ~half
a year, taking almost no weekends off. It ruined my health, both
physically and mentally. And I didn't achieve much. I will not do it
again.

curious how many hours Einstein worked every day....
I always believe, everybody's fate is determined at the beginning of his/her
life...the fate includes all those trivials....

What kind of work do you do during the 16 hours? If I do things that don't
need much thinking, i can work
much longer. but intensive reading make me tired soon.
You are super. you must be famous already!

normally <8hrs a day, and 5 days a week. May work a little bit long when
there is a proposal deadline.
Don't know if I can get tenure though.

i'm scared. i only work 4-5 hours/day for 5 days/week. i definitely will not
get tenure then.

hehe, 宿命论啊，不过我其实也很宿命。
前几年真没觉得当老师和当学生有什么不同，曾有过各种各样的 addiction
网上灌水，打牌，打游戏，看没完没了的电视剧，带着孩子参加各种各样的活动，
似乎挺爽的。（靠着运气好，吃点老本）
可现在忙的要命。周末也要工作还是感觉时间永远都不够用。
出来混，总是要还得。还是理性规划的好。

好像多数人都越来越忙，我觉得这是个broad trend，当faculty教课、做研究、拿经费
、service各方面的压力都在增大。

楼主改学生papers花的时间太多了。
我的策略是先粗粗读一遍，放一边，有空的时候（比如开车回家路上）想想，一两天后
再细看一遍搞定，这样做平均下来13页的paper每篇大概30-40分钟。

The problem is: you need to convince students why you take points off. it is
easy to read and give a score. it is hard to write comments that don't hurt
students and take points off.

I do the same. Non-tenure track, teaching school though.

每个人工作的强度不一样。有的人从早干到晚，十几个小时，但是其实很多时候眼盯着
ｐａｐｅｒ脑子在ｉｄｌｅ．当然也不排除有人体力脑力无限，可以一直高效工作。
不过基本上在教学之外每周有２０－３０小时纯研究时间还是必需的。当然研究已经轻
车熟路的可以少些。

6 hrs/day. 5 days/week.
Used to be 9 hrs/day. But got really tired and lost quite some weight. So
now I decided to work shorter hours.
