Here is an email sent to our admission committee.
"
Would you mind telling me something about the successful international (
especially those from China) PHD applicants
like their GPA, GRE(general & subject) and TOEFL scores? I'm an underdog
with a poor undergraduate GPA during years
07-11, wondering how to have a try without pointless time and money
waste.

当年我申请套磁的时候
有的导师明确跟我说你托福低于平均分XX
不过建议申请
如果是中国人
你跟他说一下也无妨
毕竟这个东西不是什么机密
我记得Iowa state和西北有个program 明确说了以往的录取学生平均GPA GRE分数

Our department doesn't have a cut-off line. My point is he didn't write a
proper email. The first half is more or less OK. But using words, like
underdog, pointless, waste, is not a good idea. I don't know if there is any
place they can find some samples. They don't have to copy the whole email,
but at least they can know what words are appropriate.

Just reply him politely. Don't have to pay much attention to his language. I
have been receiving this kind of emails all the time. ;-)

GRE和toefl一般好通融，GPA很麻烦，比如我们系里，GPA低于2.75是不能要的，不然
ABET会认为我们降低了录取标准
