It's a threat but the entry barrier of making chips is much higher than
making web pages. There is also a great chance that it takes them a lot of
money and a long time to make a chip with crappy performance.

It's not worth to keep money on INTEL.
The margin for its CPU business will be smaller and smaller due to
competition from ARM. ARM is going to everywhere. Now it's on mobile devices
, soon will be on notebook/laptop, then server market.
Tech companies are hard to invest once the companies are out of favor.

Google has tons of cash. Just go shopping. Amd can buy Seamicro then why can
't Google buy a similar company?
Arm core for server is there anyway. Just need to put in some of their own
IP cores. Not a big hassle and I think this comes earlier than expected.
FB is coming up with their own flavor of server hardware too. So we may see
this as a trend.
Those who think this is a joke need to think out of the box.
