I want to replace a string with another string in all files
under a directory, including subdirectories. Could you tell
me what UNIX command can do this? btw, can I use grep to
find a string in all the
subdirectories recursively?

I think no single command can do that.
Yo need to write a program or script to perform
the task. The followong program such as grep
awk,sed
will be useful. Referr to the manual if you are not
familiar with such commands, esp. awk.
