有年岁半百还在写代码的吗？# Working - 上班一族

这几个星期4个老师（包括我老板）申请NSF (Core Programs)。主要是一个副教授写。
他这周一写完后发给另外3人看。
昨天我老板就把proposal给我，让我提提意见。我研究了一天，写了5-6条意见。他今
天大概花了2-3分钟，把我的意见润色一下，一条没少，发给那副教授，开头是“I
have not had time to carefully read thru the draft proposal, but here are
some general comments from me。。。”
老板现在没什么经费，只有3个学生，还这么牛。Shame on it.

我在大华买的，柜台没看到，直接问得生肉部的人，从里面给拿了一大片
不到2.5lbs的猪皮，刮肥肉刮了我快2小时。。。腰都断了。。。
超级便宜，猪皮我打算做猪皮冻吃，刮下来的肥肉打算榨猪油存起来以后做点心给
我家的猪吃

那副教授花了3-4周写了85%的proposal, 老板来了一句“I have not had time to
carefully read thru the draft proposal“。
我只是这样做不是尊重人的处事方法。任何人都不该这么牛。
他把我的comments当做他的我根本无所谓。

咋会entry level？工作了两年就不算entry level了吧？
我们公司老美也有大把50岁以上做编程的啊，一个组的老美昨天刚有了第二个孙女
只要做喜欢的工作就行呗，又不可能每个人都当上manager/director

如果你花了几个月奋斗一个人写好的文章，投出去之前交给老板看，等着这篇文章
找工作；老板拖你两三个月，“I have not had time to carefully read
thru your paper...”；你是不是可能会找他“拼命”呢，呵呵

Whether your boss read the proposal or not is not your business. You have
no way to understand the deals among faculty, and you have no right to judge
other people’s way of collaboration. In particularly, you judge your boss,
who might support you for many years (with money) or supervise you these years.
It is like that a son says bad things about his father. That is the reason
why I claimed you to be 阴暗.

to ask him anything irrelevant to work.
I'm one of 年岁半百还在写代码的s. Coding is the easiest thing in the world
for me, why should I push myself for something harder at this age?

就事论事我不觉得你老板又多过分。这种事很常见而且根据你的描述也看不出你老板在
项目中的作用。很多时候senior faculty挂名完全是因为他们在领域中的地位而不是在
项目中的贡献。

俺们team 有一个白人老伙计四十多了, 技术超棒, 人也谦虚. 做 architect 和 tech
lead 都没问题. 前阵我们这招 lead, 这哥们跟着面人折腾半年了没合适的. 俺问他,
你当不就完了. 人家说自己很享受 SR. engineer 的码工生活, 不喜欢在一堆人面前讲
话...

美国这里50-60岁的程序员多了去了。很多人是喜欢编程，不喜欢当领导。

国内的人超过35岁如果还在编程，一般人都会认为这个人没有前途。这就是为什么中
国没有重量级的软件，也没有制定软件国际标准的发言权。人人都争着当官，没有人愿
意在软件开发上投入热情和时间。
设计软件构架，制定语言标准，开源软件，都需要富有经验富有热情的人来做。中国
没有这种人。开源软件的贡献者中，你很少看到中国人的名字。

我就很爱做技术，真的是心里ENJOY写CODE。我自己的效率，一个人做两个FULLTIME
JOB都是可以的。可惜没这样的机会。
做MANAGEMENT其实比技术难，没完没了的MEETING，而且还必须为手下人的活负责，老
要HANDLE那些鸡零狗碎的事，真是烦死了。可是很多人说这是“正确”的TRACK，我也
只好往这条路上靠。我看很多60岁的程序员也活得挺好的，拿的钱也不少。

好像懂偏门语言的能混得比较久--比如COBOL。不过我觉得老人的经验还是非常有用的
。一个软件团队里面得有几个见过大风浪的老人比较靠谱吧。
不过我也没资格说。。。我也才是入门级程序员。

中国印度20岁30岁写代码的多了。怎么和他们竞争啊？
要不是ceo给口饭吃，我也许早就咔了。
either way, 等着被裁。美国这边20岁30岁都不怎么上进,指望不上了。
振兴美国，遥遥无期。
