Dr. Minliang Liu will join the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University (TTU) as an Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2023. Dr. Liu’s research group is seeking two highly motivated Ph.D. students who will be starting in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. We are looking for students who are interested in one or more of the following areas:
(1) Machine learning to strategically address challenges in biomechanical modeling;
(2) Patient-specific computational modeling of cardiovascular diseases and interventions;
(3) Experimental characterization and modeling of the mechanical behavior of cardiovascular tissues.
The successful candidates will be provided with full graduate assistantships that include a tuition waiver, stipends, and student benefits. The student will have the opportunity to work on impactful research projects in collaboration with Emory, Yale, and Georgia Tech.
Who should apply
We welcome applications from candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with prior research experience in mechanics and/or machine learning will be given favorable consideration.

Test scores requirements
Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL (79 minimum), IELTS (6.5 minimum), and other tests including Duolingo online test (100 minimum).
The GRE test is recommended but not required. Admission requirements can be found on the TTU Graduate School website.
About Dr. Liu
Dr. Minliang Liu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2020, and B.Eng. degree in Mechatronic Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2015. His research interests lie primarily at the intersection of cardiovascular biomechanics, computational modeling, and machine learning. Dr. Liu's research has been funded by the American Heart Association, and his work has been published in top mechanics journals, including Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, and Acta Biomaterialia. He has received several prestigious awards and recognitions, including the Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Thesis award, the American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship, and the American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship.
